Beard fact
We were learning about Peter the Great (just Пётр I in our textbook) in history class today. Apparently, the nobility in Russia in his time were notable for their long beards. Peter OUTLAWED beards, and when that was apparently too much for the populace, he allowed beards--WITH AN EXORBITANT TAX! That's right, a Beard Tax. My favorite ridiculous historical fact.

YES! I have learned how to post! Not sure who all can read this, hope it's just us. Anyway, I was overwhelmed by the "thought/feeling" that you were feeling frightened. Hope it's just my goofey "woo-hooness" (Yes, I have possibly just created a word.) Could be all the "energy" coming from Moscow. Nonetheless, if others can read this, you can simply say that I'm unique! AND i love you bunches. LOVE the blog! Love hearing about absurd taxes. Take care wonderful Spirit! You are SOOOO Precious!
ReplyDeleteHahaha, Grandma, anyone can read comments on the blog, but that's okay. ^_^ I am not frightened, luckily! I was a little sad yesterday, but that was not Moscow- or trip-related. I love you!
ReplyDeleteOH THANK YOU for taking time from your busy adventurous life to let me know you are safe! I KNOW that your "carbon footprint" is leaving an indelible, compassionate impression in Russia! Keep on being exactly who you are- cuz you are fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThe beard tax makes me wonder if it was at all related to religious beliefs. Also, if it varied due to length. If the US had enacted it, you would pay for other people's beards if you made over a certain amount of money :o)
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your quotes in the paper. I love you!
